Eriko Otsuka

HI, I’M ERIKO

I made it my mission to spread authentic teachings and wisdom of the Samurai to an international audience. Self-studying Japanese art and culture for years led me to the Hokushin Itto-Ryu Hyoho, an ancient Japanese samurai school of warfare, strategy, philosophy and court etiquette founded in 1820. Fascinated by the school and its teachings, I started studying under Ryunosuke Otsuka. Due to my dedication and diligence, I rapidly became a certified instructor, leading the kodomo-keikokai of the honbu (junior training group within the headquarters of the school).

I am a successful independent artist – focusing on art in sumi-e style, characterized by complex shading and the playful application of hues – as well as a certified meditation teacher. Having married into an old samurai family that still upholds its centuries-old traditions, I am constantly learning new aspects of Japanese culture and traditions – Living the interconnectedness of traditional virtues and a modern society.

Together with my husband, Ryunosuke Otsuka, and Sebastian Regese, I continue to study and spread the wisdom of the Samurai and their profound teachings.
